I get asked a lot of the same questions so I thought it'd be good to air em all out and answer two most common right here. By the way I'm no expert when it comes to photography. My credentials just come from the hours upon hours of research I spend online on camera gear and techniques and such.

What camera and lens do you shoot with?

I shoot with the camera that pretty much everyone seems to have now-a-days, from pro's to serious hobbyists: A Canon 5D Mark II. The lenses that I shoot with in order of most used to least used:

Canon 50mm F1.4

Canon 35mm F1.4L

Tamron 17-35mm F2.8

Canon 85mm F1.8

Canon 70-200 F4L

What camera do you recommend for someone starting out?

I'd recommend any entry-level DSLR by Canon or Nikon. The two newest models from each brand I believe are either the Canon Rebel T1i and the Nikon D5000.

Since I shoot Canon and know more about that brand, what I would do if I had to do it over again, is buy the older model on the Canon Rebel line. The XSi. Whether new or used. you could get it for maybe $200-$300 cheaper than a new T1i. The only thing you'd be really missing out on is the HD video capabilities, but you could use the money saved on an HD camcorder if need be.
